A Fascinating Customer Story

Sometimes we at Picture This! get to hear the most interesting customer stories. We were very pleased when Sara from the non-profit Variety – the Children’s Charity of Texas contacted us to recreate a very old scrapbook.

First, a bit about how Variety of Texas was started. Details are at Our History | Variety Texas Essentially a young mother with eight children found herself with another baby and her husband out of work. She left the baby in the Sheridan theatre lobby and asked the actors in the theatre to care for the baby. She left a note that said “Please take care of my baby. Her name is Catherine. I can no longer take care of her. I have eight others. My husband is out of work. She was born on Thanksgiving Day. I have always heard of the goodness of show business and I pray to God that you will look out for her. — A Heart-Broken Mother”

These young male actors did indeed care the baby until she was 5 years old. They named her Catherine Variety Sheridan. They engaged their actor friends across the country and fundraised for this child. Any excess was used to help special needs kids across the US.

Some of the actors involved were Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, HSH Princess Grace of Monaco, Gregory Peck, Burt Reynolds, Carol Channing, and George Burns. She was cared for very well by her “Godfathers.” Catherine revealed her true identity in 1980. After her death, her son wanted to donate the historical scrapbook to Variety International in memory of his mother.

Sara says, “We at Variety, the Children’s Charity of Texas recently received a very old scrapbook from Catherine’s son. This non-profit was started to extend Variety’s Mission to help children with special needs.  Because of the history of Variety and how this organization was actually founded, we wanted to present a copy of this book to Variety International.  The staff at Picture This! took the scrapbook and reproduced every image – pictures, newspaper clippings, legal documents, etc. – into digitized images that we could reproduce to create a new masterpiece.  The finished images was presented in a duplicated album at the Variety International World Convention in Dublin, Ireland on May 7th.  It was PERFECT and such an incredible way to capture the memories of a little baby who began the world’s great charity – Variety! We highly recommend Picture This! for any project you might have, however unusual.”
